Honeywell Scanning and Mobility has released the Xenon 2D barcode scanner. With their acquisition of Hand Held Products and Metrologic, Honeywell has been able to take the best of both of these companies' already great 2D scanning technologies and put them into the Xenon. Out of all of the 2D scanners that I have tested, this scanner is the fastest at capturing both 2D and linear barcodes. The
Xenon 1900 is the corded version and the
Xenon 1902 is the cordless Bluetooth version.
The form factor has also received an upgrade. Compared to the Metrologic Focus and Handheld Products 4600, the Xenon is smaller and more compact. Honeywell shows their confidence in this product by backing it with a 5-year warranty. As expected, because of Honeywell's strong presence in the healthcare industry, they will offer a disinfectant-ready housing to protect the scanner from the harsh chemicals used for sterilization. The Xenon 1902 Bluetooth cordless version can communicate with the host up to 33 feet away and has a 3-year warranty.
Honeywell is also offering some nice software tools to be used in conjunction with the Xenon. Image processing software will allow advanced editing functionality such as cropping, brightening, rotating, sharpening and more, to produce high-quality digital images. Remote Mastermind
TM Scanner Management Software is an exciting tool that can be utilized by IT administrators who have to manage several scanners within their network from a single remote location.
I believe this scanner will be one of the best 2D barcode scanners on the market and I'm interested to see what Honeywell will come out with next.
